The Devon CEPN is delighted to be hosting the first annual Devon Excellence in Nursing Awards on the 15 May 2018 at Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel as part of the Devon Better Together Nursing Conference.

The Awards are open to all primary care and community nurses working in Devon. Nominees must have led or initiated changes in practice within 12 months of entering the competition.

The awards categories are:

Individual awards

  • Lady Patricia Smith Award – Lifetime Achievement
  • Supporting Education in Practice
  • Rising Star
  • Inspirational Leader
  • Practice Nurse of the Year
  • Community Nurse of the Year

Team award

  • Better Together – Integrated Team Working

Who can nominate:

Any individual, including patients, may nominate a candidate for these awards.

Online application forms for all award categories are available from the Devon CEPN website

Closing date for all nomination forms is close of business on 15th of April 2018. Application forms received after the closing date will not be considered.

Lifetime Achievement 

Lady Patricia Smith Award – Lifetime Achievement Award aims to recognise an inspirational nurse who has made a significant positive impact on the nursing profession or health care provision over a sustained period of time. We welcome nominations from either colleagues or patients who wish to highlight a nurse who they believe merits this recognition.

Supporting Education in Practice

Recognising a Top Performing Educator in Community Health care. This award aims to recognise a Practice or Community Nurse or a team who continually supports education in the work place.

Rising Star Award

This award recognises a nurse who has been qualified for less than five years and will be a positive influence on the profession throughout their careers.

Inspirational Leader Award

This award aims to recognise an individual or team who have demonstrated exceptional leadership abilities and they have used them to help shape high quality, safe care in their area of work.

Better Together – Integrated Team Award

Recognising a Top Performing Team. Celebrating extraordinary teams who consistently go beyond their ‘job description’ to make a difference for patients, carers or colleagues.

Practice Nurse and Community Nurse of the Year Awards

The overall winner of Nurse of the Year 2017 is an individual who works in a primary or community care setting. This Award aims to recognise a Practice or Community Nurse who has made an outstanding contribution to patient care in their local area, an individual who stands out above the rest and has gone above and beyond what is expected of them in their day-to-day role On the night of the awards the winner be announced and will receive the accolade of the Devon Excellence in Nursing Award.

Please note the online form must be completed in one go, you will not be able to save the form. Therefore, please make sure you have the following information ready before attempting to complete this form:

  • Nominee information – place of work, contact details
  • Verifier information – place of work, contact details

You will be asked to submit in no more than 500 words the reason for nomination. Please ensure you evidence how the nominee meets each of the award criteria. It would be a good idea to have this completed before starting the online nomination form (saved as a text document to enable you to copy and paste into the on-line form).

The selection of Award winners will be made by a panel of judges. Awards are non-transferable and the judges’ decision is final.

The Devon CEPN reserves the right to disqualify any candidate at any stage of the selection process if it is considered to be in the best interest of the nursing and midwifery profession.
